The Sit’n’Stitch group Frayed Edges volunteered to take on a Guild project “Domestic Violence Awareness Quilt” for the Department of Corrections (DOC). This was a queen-sized wall-display quilt featuring a large tree with flowing bare branches.
The quilt was presented to the DOC Secretary and staff on March 22nd, 2010. It was circulated among six DOC district offices. Hundreds of purple leaves had been made (purple is the designated color representing domestic violence), with the names of violence victims written on them. The quilt was returned to Frayed Edges, and the “named” leaves appliqued on. The quilt was displayed in the Capitol.
